[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases has dropped back to the 20,000 range after five days. Compared to the same day last week, it decreased by about 10,000 cases.


According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 14th, as of midnight, the number of new COVID-19 cases was 29,581. The cumulative total number of confirmed cases reached 17,756,627. This marks a return to the 20,000 range after five days since the 9th. Compared to the same day last week (the 7th), when there were 39,590 cases, it decreased by about 10,000.


The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 341, an increase of 6 from the previous day (347). However, the number of critically ill patients has remained in the 300s for five consecutive days since dropping to 398 on the 10th. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 17.1%. In the metropolitan area, it is 15.8%, and in non-metropolitan areas, it is 20.1%.


The number of COVID-19 deaths reported on this day is 55, an increase of 3 from the previous day (52). The cumulative death toll stands at 23,661, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.


The number of patients currently under home treatment is 225,250, slightly down from 235,442 the previous day. On the previous day, 30,735 new patients were added to home treatment, and 15,815 patients are under intensive care receiving health management from medical institutions.


The COVID-19 vaccination rates are 87.8% for the first dose, 86.8% for the second dose, and 64.7% for the third dose. Among those who received the fourth dose, 142,660 people aged 60 and over received the fourth vaccination the previous day, bringing the fourth dose vaccination rate for this age group to 24.0%.
