[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Posco Chemical has decided to collaborate with Hanyang University following Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) to secure talent in battery materials.

Posco Chemical announced on the 13th that it signed the 'e-Battery Track Agreement' with Hanyang University at Hanyang University's New Main Building. The signing ceremony held the previous day was attended by Min Kyungjun, President of Posco Chemical, and Kim Wooseung, President of Hanyang University, among others.

Starting in the second half of this year, Posco Chemical will operate the e-Battery Track, a degree program specializing in battery materials, at Hanyang University. It will select and nurture master's and doctoral talents. Graduates are planned to be employed at Posco Chemical’s research institutes. Students will visit business sites and undertake joint research projects. Tuition and scholarships will be supported by Posco Chemical.

Since 2019, Posco Chemical has established an industry-academic cooperation system with Hanyang University's Battery Center and has been conducting various joint research projects. Last year, Posco appointed Sun Yangguk, a domestic authority on battery materials and a professor in Hanyang University's Department of Energy Engineering, as an endowed professor, strengthening research capabilities through close cooperation. To cultivate battery material experts, enhance business competitiveness, and contribute to the development of the industrial ecosystem, Posco Chemical is increasing cooperation with domestic universities. Following POSTECH in March and UNIST last month, this is the third talent cultivation agreement this year.

President Min said, "The agreement with Hanyang University, which leads basic technology in battery materials, will be an opportunity to further strengthen Posco Chemical’s competitiveness," adding, "We will actively support outstanding talents to fully demonstrate their research capabilities and grow as key players in the 'K-Battery'." President Kim responded, "We have established a battery-related department, recognized as a core component of the 21st-century economy and industry," and said, "We will nurture the best battery material talents together with Posco Chemical to meet the demands of the Korean battery industry."
