[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Economic Employment Promotion Agency has been operating the ‘Gwangju Public Delivery App’ since July last year.
This is part of support measures to address the monopoly damage caused by the delivery app market share being concentrated in giant platform companies such as Baedal Minjok, which leads to excessive burdens on small business owners and traditional market merchants due to intermediary fees.
Nam-gu, Gwangju, became the third local autonomous district to sign a business agreement to activate the operation of the Gwangju Public Delivery App. It pledged to actively support the establishment of the ‘Gwangju Public Delivery App Wemakeprice O’ in the region by strengthening cooperation for promotion targeting affiliated stores and consumers within the district, and utilizing online and offline promotional channels for the successful implementation of the project.
As of May, the number of affiliated stores of the Gwangju Public Delivery App Wemakeprice O stands at about 7,200, of which approximately 900 businesses are registered in Nam-gu.
According to Statistics Korea data, there are 2,298 food service businesses registered in Nam-gu, and if about 50-60% of them are delivery-capable businesses, it is expected that around 500 businesses could be registered as affiliated stores on the Gwangju Public Delivery App.
Nam-gu promised to actively participate in the activation of Gwangju Public Delivery by proposing various cooperation plans that can approach local residents most closely, such as alleyway commercial district merchant associations, residents’ autonomy committees, and neighborhood meetings.
At the agreement ceremony, Park Sung-soo, director of the Gwangju Economic Employment Promotion Agency, said to Lee Jung-sik, deputy mayor of Nam-gu, “Since we have introduced a good platform where small business owners and consumers can come together, I hope it becomes a successful case of mutual growth. I also request the autonomous district to cooperate in promotion so that it can provide practical help close to small business owners, self-employed people, and consumers within the district.”
