[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Textbooks created by the Korea Iron & Steel Association and others will be distributed to elementary schools in Dangjin City, Chungcheongnam-do.
The Steel Association, Dangjin Office of Education in Chungcheongnam-do, and Hyundai Steel announced on the 12th that they signed the "Chungnam Dangjin Steel Education Support Business Agreement" at the Office of Education. The agreement was implemented to support educational activities aimed at cultivating knowledge and raising awareness about steel among elementary schools in Dangjin, Chungnam. Attendees at the signing ceremony included Byeon Youngman, Vice Chairman of the Steel Association, Kim Yongjae, Superintendent of the Office of Education, Lee Myunggu, Executive Director of Hyundai Steel, and Song Hajong, Principal of Dangjin Elementary School.
The agreement organizations will actively cooperate to provide steel textbook guidance and promotion for elementary schools in Dangjin City, operate inter-agency working councils for schools wishing to conduct steel textbook classes, provide content and instructor support for steel textbook lessons, and support factory invitation field trips.
Since 2020, the Steel Association has developed content for elementary students to promote the industry's eco-friendliness. They formed an editorial committee consisting of teaching staff from the Pohang area (authors), industry and academic experts, and developed online teaching materials including steel textbooks and audiovisual materials. They supported textbooks for elementary schools in Pohang City and Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, where the second year of education classes is scheduled this year. In March, steel textbooks were distributed to 5th and 6th graders at 32 elementary schools in Dangjin City, recruiting schools that wish to conduct classes this year. Hyundai Steel plans to dispatch instructors to these schools and support factory invitation field trips.
Vice Chairman Byeon said at the event, "The steel industry is a national key industry that produces basic materials and supplies them to various demand industries such as construction, automobiles, and shipbuilding, playing an important role in the development of the Korean economy," adding, "I hope the steel textbook will become a cornerstone for nurturing future talents who will lead the Korean steel industry."
The steel textbooks and online teaching materials published by the Steel Association are scheduled to be provided within this month through the free teaching and learning support site 'Cheonjae Education T-Self.' The association plans to continue promotional activities centered on other steel industry cities such as Incheon.
