[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has opened the '2022 Seonbi University' established to spread the scholar spirit of Nammyung Jo Sik, a great practical Confucian scholar of the Joseon Dynasty.
Marking its 17th year this year, Sancheong Seonbi University has been operated under consignment by the Nammyung Studies Institute affiliated with Gyeongsang National University since 2006.
It was established to promote the Nammyung spirit and enhance the status of Sancheong-gun, the hometown of scholars, producing about 50 graduates annually.
Lectures are held every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Nammyung Memorial Hall in Sicheon-myeon until December 14. The faculty consists of professors from the Nammyung Studies Institute at Gyeongsang National University and external distinguished figures.
The curriculum mainly focuses on classical Chinese reading (Mencius) and includes general liberal arts and university courses related to seonbi culture.
A county official said, “Sancheong-gun is establishing itself as the authentic hometown of scholars through the operation of Seonbi University as well as the Korean Seonbi Culture Research Institute. We will continue to strive to boost local residents' pride and ensure substantial management.”
