Gyeongsangbuk-do and Jeonju City have been selected as target sites for establishing regional Hanbok Culture Creative Centers this year.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation announced on the 12th that the two regions will serve as hubs for spreading Hanbok culture. The regional Hanbok Culture Creative Centers are projects that establish Hanbok infrastructure to support and operate related creative activities and participatory programs. The government will provide 1 billion KRW in funding over three years. A Ministry of Culture official explained, "450 million KRW will be used to establish the Hanbok Culture Creative Center infrastructure, 300 million KRW for detailed program operations, and 250 million KRW to strengthen internal capabilities." He added, "Hanbok culture education will also be conducted at about fifty elementary, middle, and high schools within the regions."
Gyeongsangbuk-do will establish the Sangju Sanguiwon at the Hanbok Promotion Center located in Sangju City. It will comprehensively support Hanbok production, sales, and research and development based on traditional textile industry facilities such as silk, hemp, and rayon. Jeonju City will create a creative center at the Korean Traditional Culture Center and utilize Jeonju Hanok Village, the wedding street, and traditional markets. They plan to operate specialized programs centered on Hanbok practitioners and citizens, and create spaces for enjoying Hanbok to widely promote Hanbok culture.
