Gijang-gun Jeonggwan-eup, Community Children and Idle Space Garden Cultivation Program Operation Children in Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan are planting luffa in an unused space.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] The Jeonggwan-eup Administrative Welfare Center in Gijang-gun, Busan, operated the program "As Loofahs Grow, So Do Children," a vacant space garden cultivation program, for 49 children in the area on the 10th.

This event is part of the "Jeonggwan-eup Body and Mind Strong Community Value and Together" project, which was selected and promoted under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "This Year's Public Service Linkage Strengthening Contest for Residents' Living Sites." Through cultivating a garden in the vacant space of the Jeonggwan-eup Administrative Welfare Center, children learn the importance of life and the environment and gain experiences that foster curiosity and imagination by breathing with nature.

On the day of the event, Choi Jin-ho, chairman of the Jeonggwan-eup Community Security Council, honorary social welfare officers, and welfare agency officials participated together to conduct activities such as naming the loofahs and experiencing garden cultivation with the children.

The "As Loofahs Grow, So Do Children" program will be held a total of four times until October, and the harvested loofahs will be delivered to the participating children and low-income elderly residents in the area.

The children who participated in the event said, "I didn't know that loofahs can be eaten and also used for washing dishes. I hope the loofahs I planted grow healthy and fast."

Jeonggwan-eup Mayor Kim Jong-cheon said, "It is meaningful as a village project involving members of various welfare institutions and volunteer groups in the region," and added, "I hope children find unique fun in the vacant space within the government building."
