"Enhancing Software Competitiveness to Boost Order-Winning Capability"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Mobis announced on the 12th that it has signed a business agreement with the German vehicle software company Vector for joint platform development. Vector is a key member of AUTOSAR, which includes major global automakers, parts manufacturers, and information technology (IT) companies, working together to create global standards for vehicle software.
According to the agreement, Hyundai Mobis expects to accelerate the development of a standardized software platform optimized for the global automotive market. Many global automakers have recently been requesting parts suppliers to apply AUTOSAR-based platforms, and some automakers have directly joined AUTOSAR as members to set standards, leading to a surge in demand for related products. Supplying software based on AUTOSAR’s standard platform reduces development time and facilitates easy application to other derivative products.
Hyundai Mobis explained, "The products ordered from overseas automakers have increased from traditional hardware to advanced electronic components equipped with software," adding, "There is a growing need to collaborate with AUTOSAR specialized developers who have experience supplying standardized platforms to existing overseas clients while enhancing our own software capabilities."
Under the agreement, Hyundai Mobis will share Vector’s know-how, while Vector is expected to expand its software supply channels based on Hyundai Mobis’s product portfolio. The two companies will first load jointly developed software based on AUTOSAR standards into next-generation parking systems, autonomous driving sensors, and infotainment systems.
Jang Jae-ho, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Mobis’s Electronics Research Division, said, "We will build a strategic partnership to enhance global software competitiveness and quality reliability, and actively promote the transition to a software company."
Hyundai Mobis is operating a consortium with domestic specialized developers to localize core software platform technologies. It plans to showcase core technologies applied with the OTAT solution for autonomous driving wireless communication technology, which has recently seen a sharp increase in demand. Furthermore, starting with this agreement, it will establish mid- to long-term cooperation with key companies in autonomous driving element technologies located in North America and Europe.
