[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Yeongcheon City, Gyeongbuk Province, has mobilized employees from all departments to assist with farm work from this month through next month, coinciding with the farming season.
This farm labor assistance initiative is a response to the difficulties faced by farmers due to labor shortages caused by a decrease in foreign seasonal workers and rural aging, despite the lifting of social distancing measures.
On the 9th, 15 employees from the Fruit and Herbal Medicine Division visited Gasang-ri, Hwasan-myeon, to remove garlic scapes from a 2,000㎡ garlic field. On the 10th, 11 members of the Population Education Division went to Pyeongcheon-ri, Imgok-myeon, to help remove garlic scapes from a 3,569㎡ garlic field.
Additionally, on the same day, 15 employees from the Accounting Division visited Shindeok 2-ri, Cheongtong-myeon, a sister village, to assist with plum thinning and garlic scape removal. On the 11th, 34 employees from the Environmental Protection Division, Technical Support Division, and Hwanam-myeon participated in work at Singwang-ri, Daechang-myeon; Osan-ri, Hwabuk-myeon; and Guiho-ri, Hwanam-myeon, helping with peach thinning and garlic scape removal over a total area of 8,700㎡.
