Busan Mayor Candidate Support, Park Hyung-jun 57.6% vs Byun Sung-wan 29.4% [Realmeter]

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll showed that Park Hyung-jun, the People Power Party candidate running for mayor of Busan in the June 1 local elections, is significantly ahead of Byeon Seong-wan, the Democratic Party candidate.

On the 11th, Realmeter conducted a survey commissioned by MBN from the 9th to the 10th targeting 810 men and women aged 18 and older living in Busan. The results showed that Park's support rate was 57.6%. Byeon's support rate was 29.4%. The gap between the two candidates' support rates was 28.2 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error (±3.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). Kim Young-jin, the Justice Party candidate, had a support rate of 2.3%, and other figures accounted for 2.5%.

Park showed higher-than-average support among voters in the central-western region (63.5%), those aged 60 and older (70.9%), those in their 50s (63.9%), men (62.4%), and conservative voters (85.4%).

Byeon showed higher support in the western region (33.0%), people in their 30s (41.8%), those aged 18 to 29 (38.5%), people in their 40s (33.7%), and progressive voters (68.0%).

Regarding the most important task Busan should focus on, real estate measures such as stabilizing housing prices ranked highest at 26.5%. This was followed by solving traffic problems and expanding infrastructure (16.6%), early construction of Gadeok New Airport (15.9%), construction of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam megacity (9.7%), and attracting the 2030 Busan World Expo (8.6%).
