[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it will actively begin managing urban gardens by hiring 'Citizen Gardeners.'

This initiative aims to create a beautiful green city full of diverse seasonal attractions and vitality, leading the culture of gardens in daily life.

'Citizen Gardeners' are managers who create and maintain urban gardens around living areas. They are trained as professionals through education provided to Gwangju citizens in cooperation between Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Chonnam National University.

Dong-gu plans to assign the newly hired Citizen Gardeners to manage 10 urban garden sites within the district and will continuously increase the number of management sites in the future to provide residents with the beauty of the 'Green City Dong-gu.'

Additionally, in the second half of this year, a 'Beautiful Garden Contest' will be held targeting private and community gardens created by residents. Through this, the district intends to discover hidden beautiful gardens throughout the city and spread the culture of gardens in daily life.

A Dong-gu official stated, “Together with Citizen Gardeners, we will transform neglected land around living areas into gardens and cultivate them to create a beautiful urban landscape.”
