Building a Social Safety Net, Awarded the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation
Geochang-gun has been selected as an outstanding local government for supporting the discovery of welfare crisis households.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, was selected as an outstanding local government for discovering and supporting welfare crisis households during the winter period of 2021-2022 and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.
This award was given due to excellent evaluations in discovery and support performance and local government discovery sectors compared to the previous year in the nationwide welfare crisis household intensive discovery and support project simultaneously promoted last winter.
The county introduced that it discovered crisis households by establishing and utilizing a human safety net through public-private cooperation, with residents as the main agents to solve local problems.
They developed and promoted creative and pioneering welfare policies involving citizen participation, such as the ‘Arim 1004 Movement’ and the ‘Geochanghan Shared Refrigerator,’ focusing efforts on eliminating welfare blind spots.
During the last winter’s intensive welfare crisis household discovery period, a task force for intensive discovery of crisis households was organized and operated with the vice county governor as the head. Through business agreements with institutions (companies) in lifestyle industries, related workers were appointed as honorary social welfare officers to focus on discovering welfare blind spots.
Acting County Governor Kim Tae-hee said, “Many institutions, organizations, and residents joined their hearts to create a tight safety net and cooperated closely to discover and support neighbors in need,” adding, “We will do our best to create a livable county without welfare blind spots through public-private cooperation.”
