[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Two freshmen students from Dongmyung University, a Do-ing talent nurturing university, will embark on a grand expedition crossing Eurasia over about two months starting this June.


The two students will cross the Eurasian continent with a group of 40 people to promote the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.


They will participate in global challenge, experience, and practice activities befitting the name of Do-ing University·and simultaneously earn 6 credits for their major elective courses. The relevant courses are Pioneering Subject (4 credits) and Foreign Exploration (2 credits).


The protagonists of the Eurasian crossing are Dongmyung University Do-ing College freshmen Nam Hyo-yeon and Kim Min-seong.


From June 5 to August 3, for about 60 days, they plan to travel using SUVs and other vehicles through the route Korea → Russia → Latvia → Lithuania → Poland → Germany → Netherlands → Belgium → France → Portugal → Spain → Switzerland → Italy.


As members of the expedition team, the two students will introduce various characteristics of each region they pass through, such as terrain, climate, culture, customs, and food, using broadcast media like YouTube and video records.


As university students of the Republic of Korea, they will also carry out meaningful promotional activities to generate global consensus for Busan's bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.


The entire group consists of 40 people, including 33 general citizens, such as Yoo Jae-jin, chairman of Star Automobile; Han Mi-young, CEO of Trans Eurasia; Na Ho-ju, standing chairman of Trans Eurasia; Lee Young-jun, standing representative of Sasekuihyanggi; and Kim Tae-gyun, general video director.


The means of transportation will include 10 four-wheel-drive SUV vehicles and 1 camper van.


The group plans to carry out various activities such as a promotional performance praying for the success of the 2030 Busan World Expo bid in cooperation with Korean community organizations including the Korean Association, Kukkiwon, and the National Unification Advisory Council at the Berlin Wall in Germany, and a success prayer ceremony for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid at Cabo da Roca in Portugal.


Lee Jun-ha, vice president of external cooperation at Dongmyung University, said, “Jeon Ho-hwan, president of Dongmyung University Do-ing, and National Assembly members Choi In-ho and Ahn Byung-gil will also participate in some parts of the European section of the Eurasian crossing to emphasize the importance of the Busan Expo bid with their full commitment.”


The vice president of external cooperation previously served as vice chairman of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and led the participation of the two freshmen.


Seo Jong-su, dean of Dongmyung University Do-ing College, said, “We will fully support and encourage our freshmen with infinite potential to focus on Do-ing (challenge, experience, practice) education activities such as participating in the Eurasian expedition team.”
