[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, discussed mutual cooperation measures with President Faustin-Archange Touad?ra of the Central African Republic in the provincial government reception room on the afternoon of the 8th.
President Touad?ra was invited to South Korea for the presidential inauguration ceremony held at the National Assembly on the 10th.
This meeting was arranged after President Touad?ra requested a meeting with Governor Lee Cheol-woo due to his special interest in Gyeongbuk.
It is known that they exchanged in-depth opinions on cooperation measures between the Central African Republic and Gyeongbuk Province that day.
Governor Lee expressed gratitude to President Touad?ra, who showed deep interest in Gyeongbuk and a proactive willingness to cooperate, and agreed to collaborate on regional development and economic growth in the Central African Republic.
He also conveyed his intention to actively contribute to the development of the Central African Republic through various forms of cooperation.
On the 27th of last month, Governor Lee praised the courage and determination of the Central African Republic, which became the second country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, saying, “I applaud the Central African Republic’s bold move amid a lack of financial systems to enable more citizens to benefit economically,” and added, “Our province is paying close attention to and supporting the Central African Republic’s challenge.”
Also attending the meeting was Seo Jung-ho, CEO of Ajin Industry, who received a medal from President Touad?ra in May last year.
After learning about the desperate situation in the Central African Republic due to hunger and civil war through Nagombo Emile Gross Raymond, Mayor of Bangui City, Central African Republic, who visited Korea in 2017, CEO Seo began unconditional aid and has supported about 800 million KRW worth of flood damage recovery costs and vehicles over the past five years.
In April of this year, he also shipped about 1 billion KRW worth of goods, including soccer balls, medical supplies, and daily necessities, in six containers.
Considering the deep religious conflicts and realities, he proposed that children of leaders from the three religions?Christianity, Catholicism, and Islam?study together at Kyungil University.
Kyungil University gladly responded to CEO Seo’s wish by providing full scholarships for four years, and on the 4th of this month, three students arrived in South Korea.
President Touad?ra said, “Gyeongsangbuk-do is a region that preserves tradition and culture so well that it is called ‘Korea within Korea,’ and it is the center of industrialization with many global companies. Despite difficult domestic and international conditions, I look forward to developmental cooperation between our two countries.”
