[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] President Moon Jae-in will deliver a message of national unity through a public address ahead of the end of his term at midnight on the 9th.
On the same day, President Moon plans to pay respects in succession at the National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and the Independence Patriots' Cemetery in Hyochang Park, Yongsan-gu.
At 10 a.m., President Moon is scheduled to give a farewell speech at the Blue House main building, reflecting on his term and delivering a message to the nation.
The speech is expected to include pride in the achievements made over the past five years and a proposal to use these as a driving force to move forward into the future.
In the afternoon, as his final diplomatic schedule, he will meet with Singapore President Halimah Yacob, who is visiting for the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, and Wang Qishan, Vice President of China.
After completing these schedules, President Moon will leave the Blue House for the last time at 6 p.m., seeing off the Blue House staff.
President Moon, accompanied by First Lady Kim Jung-sook, will exit through the Blue House main gate and walk down to the fountain, where he is expected to greet citizens who have come to see him off on his final departure.
Many pro-Moon members of the Democratic Party of Korea, along with supporters, are also expected to attend this event.
After leaving work, President Moon will move to an undisclosed location in Seoul and exercise military command authority through a hotline connected to the Ministry of National Defense until midnight on the 10th.
Thus, the national administration led by President Moon, which began with his inauguration on May 10, 2017, and lasted five years, will come to a close.
Becoming a private citizen, President Moon will attend President-elect Yoon’s inauguration ceremony the following day before heading to his residence.
He is expected to arrive at Seoul Station Plaza at noon, take the KTX, get off at Ulsan Tongdosa Station around 2:30 p.m., and then arrive at Pyeongsan Village, Jisan-ri, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam, where his residence is located, around 3 p.m.
Since local residents and supporters will gather nearby, President Moon plans to share his reflections on completing his term in front of the village hall before entering his residence.
