[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoon Hee-sook described Lee Jae-myung, the senior advisor of the Democratic Party of Korea, declaring his candidacy for the Incheon Gyeyang by-election as "the most shameless plan for a suspect to flee in history."
On the 8th, Yoon posted on social media (SNS), "My impression after just seeing Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party advisor’s declaration to run in Incheon Gyeyang," expressing this view.
Regarding Lee’s statement that "politics is about confronting political risks head-on and turning crises into opportunities," Yoon said, "The basic duty to the public is to undergo investigation for political risks caused by one’s criminal acts, clear one’s name, and then run for elected office," adding, "No one in Korea’s 70-year political history has so aggressively expressed a desperate desire to survive by hiding behind a parliamentary badge, and there never should be."
On Lee’s remark, "I will create even a faint hope for many citizens who still cannot turn on their TVs after the presidential election defeat," Yoon commented, "This means he would openly refuse to accept the presidential election results if it helps him escape," and added, "His life history and criminal allegations contributed significantly to the presidential election defeat, yet instead of reflection and introspection, he incites his hardline supporters, which makes me wonder how much more he will ruin Korean politics."
At the end of her SNS post, Yoon expressed her feelings, saying, "A politician who disgraces the people of the Republic of Korea living in the 21st century like this?this is not a candidacy declaration but a very grotesque black comedy."
Yoon, who resigned from the National Assembly over allegations of her father’s violation of the Agricultural Land Act, is one of the figures the People Power Party is considering nominating to oppose Lee.
