[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Reports have emerged that the European Union (EU) will attempt last-minute negotiations with a new card to restore the stalled Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).

The EU's chief negotiator is expected to visit Iran on the 10th with a new negotiation proposal.

According to foreign media on the 7th (local time), Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said in an interview with the Financial Times (FT), "We are seeking a compromise to end the deadlock that has nullified over a year of European diplomatic efforts."

Negotiations to restore the Iran nuclear deal have progressed to what is considered the final hurdle, but Iran and the United States have failed to narrow their differences over the issue of removing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the U.S. terrorist list.

Borrell told the FT that they are considering a scenario in which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would be removed from the terrorist list, but organizations under the Guard Corps that are expanding their influence would remain on the list.

He said that Enrique Mora, the EU External Action Service Secretary-General who chairs the negotiations, wants to visit Tehran to discuss this issue, but Iran is very reluctant. He described this diplomatic effort as the "last bullet." He also told the FT that there will be no final ultimatum to Iran.

Following this report, Iran's state-run Noor News reported that Secretary-General Mora will visit Iran on the 10th for the upcoming negotiations.
