Damyang-gun Selected as Final Winner in the Children's Science Experience Space Expansion Support Project Competition

Nation's First 'Children's Wetland Ecological Science Museum' Established in Honam Climate Change Experience Center Area

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 7th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it was finally selected for the '2022 Children's Science Experience Space' expansion support project contest hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The Children's Science Experience Space expansion support project is a project to create play-type science experience spaces in basic unit living spaces to foster the imagination and creativity of children, the future generation.

Through this selection, a total project cost of 2 billion KRW (1 billion KRW national funds, 1 billion KRW county funds) will be invested by 2023 in the Honam Climate Change Experience Center area within Meta Land under the theme of 'Ecological Science Experience Trip to Damyang' to create the nation's first children's wetland ecological science center.

The county will utilize Damyang's ecological environment and regional characteristics to establish a wetland environment experience center and ecological preservation experience center where children can directly touch, experience, and acquire knowledge and understanding of ecological resources.

Along with this, an outdoor Meta Playland will be created to build an ecological exploration playground where 'exploration and play' coexist.

A county official said, "Through this contest selection, we will lay the foundation for the activation of comprehensive children's science experiences in Damyang and develop a science experience platform that teaches the basic values of ESG, a national agenda, into a space to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural areas and foster creative talent."
