[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] In the primary election for the candidate for Hamyang County Governor, the current county governor Seo Chunsu won and was confirmed as the People Power Party candidate on the 6th.
In the three-way primary contest held on the 4th and 5th between preliminary candidates Seo Chunsu, Hwang Tae-jin, and Kim Han-gon, candidate Seo received 56.99% of the votes, defeating Hwang Tae-jin with 22.39% and Kim Han-gon with 17.16%.
The combined results of polls conducted over two days by two polling agencies showed Seo Chunsu at 63.32%, Hwang Tae-jin at 22.39%, and Kim Han-gon at 14.3%. However, candidate Seo was penalized 10% for a history of party withdrawal, and candidate Kim was given a 20% bonus as a political newcomer, but the rankings did not change.
Thus, the June 1 local election for Hamyang County Governor is likely to develop into a two-way contest between People Power Party candidate Seo Chunsu and Jin Byeong-yeong, who left the party in protest of the cutoff on the 1st and is running as an independent.
After confirming the primary results, candidate Seo Chunsu said, “I bow my head in gratitude for the wise choice of the people of Hamyang County,” and added, “To repay your support and encouragement, I will trust only the residents and run again.”
He continued, “Over the past four years, I have devoted myself to eradicating corruption and normalizing county administration. For the next four years, I will focus on completing ‘Strong Small City Hamyang,’” and said, “I will bring budgets, companies, policies, and projects that will make the residents happy and complete Hamyang as a small but strong city and a southern inland logistics hub.”
