[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it has been selected as an 'Excellent Institution for Food Safety Management 2022' in the Food Safety Management Excellence Institution Evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in celebration of Food Safety Week.
This evaluation targeted 17 cities and provinces nationwide and 228 cities, counties, and districts, based on 14 indicators including the establishment of food safety management infrastructure, basic hygiene management, and COVID-19 quarantine inspections throughout 2021.
Seo-gu made efforts to ensure food safety by conducting food collection inspections to preemptively block the distribution of hazardous foods and fostering specialized consumer food monitoring personnel through food hygiene education.
Additionally, last year, Seo-gu was evaluated for actively responding to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the region by continuously inspecting quarantine rules at food hygiene businesses and supporting daily quarantine measures for restaurants using the Food Hygiene Fund.
In particular, to support local food manufacturers struggling due to COVID-19, Seo-gu held a Safe Food Exhibition at Gwangju Shinsegae Department Store, promoting local products and encouraging consumption, which was recognized as a significant contribution to revitalizing the local economy.
A Seo-gu Office official stated, “We will continue to strive to secure food safety and do our best to preemptively block hazardous foods.”
