Incheon City: "The two organizations are not affiliated with Incheon City"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] It has been confirmed that the daughter of Han Dong-hoon, the nominee for Minister of Justice, received the 'Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center Award' in 2020 and the 'Incheon City Council Chairman Award' last year, respectively.
This is not the previously reported 'Incheon Mayor Award,' nor is it the 'award from an organization under Incheon City' as explained by Han's side.
According to Incheon City and others on the 5th, Han's daughter received the 'Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center Award' at the 24th Incheon Youth Volunteer Conference in 2020, and last year, she was awarded the Incheon City Council Chairman Award at the request of the Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center.
On the previous day, MBC reported that "an American internet media introduced Han's daughter's educational volunteer activities and mentioned awards such as the Seoul Mayor Award and Incheon Mayor Award, but there is no record of such awards being given by the respective local governments."
In response, Han's confirmation preparation team immediately refuted in a message sent to reporters, stating, "The candidate's eldest daughter has received awards from the Seoul Metropolitan Mayor in 2021 and from heads of organizations under Incheon City in 2020."
However, according to Incheon City's verification, Han's daughter received the 'Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center Award' and the 'Incheon City Council Chairman Award,' not the 'Incheon Mayor Award.'
Also, Incheon City explained that the Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center, which gave the awards, is not an organization under Incheon City, contrary to Han's side's explanation.
An official from Incheon City stated, "The Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center is an institution operated by the Gachon Michuhol Youth Volunteer Group, which is commissioned by Incheon City to handle youth activity policy work, and it is not an organization under Incheon City," adding, "There is a possibility of misunderstanding in (Han's side's) explanation."
Meanwhile, Park Nam-chun, the Democratic Party candidate for Incheon Mayor, who posted a rebuttal regarding the claim that Han's daughter received an award from an organization under Incheon City, corrected the facts again.
On the 5th, Park posted on his social media, "I came across a report stating that Han's confirmation preparation team said, 'The candidate's eldest daughter received awards from the Seoul Metropolitan Mayor last year and from heads of organizations under Incheon City in 2020.' This is not true," he pointed out.
He explained, "The award (Han's daughter received) was the Incheon City Council Chairman Award requested by an institution commissioned by Incheon City to carry out national youth policies," adding, "(The date was) November 2021."
Park further elaborated on the award, saying, "The award was given by the council chairman at the request of the commissioned institution. It is not the Incheon Mayor Award, and the council is not an organization under Incheon City."
However, in a later post, Park corrected the facts again, stating, "There are award records for Han's daughter in 2020 and 2021, so I am correcting the facts: the 2020 Incheon Youth Activity Promotion Center Award and the 2021 Incheon City Council Chairman Award."
He added, "I confirm and correct that the 'Incheon Mayor Award' reported is actually the 'City Council Chairman Award,' and in 2020, it was the center director's award from the city-commissioned institution."
