Kim Seok-jun, preliminary candidate for Superintendent of Education of Busan, is giving a speech in front of representatives from various sectors and Busan citizens who attended the opening ceremony.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Kim Seok-jun, a preliminary candidate for Busan City Superintendent of Education, held an opening ceremony with about 1,000 Busan citizens, representatives from various sectors, parents, and supporters.
At the opening ceremony held on the 4th at the 3rd floor election office of Busan Bank Beomnaegol Branch, Candidate Kim Seok-jun said, “Based on the various achievements accumulated and experiences gained so far, I will surely advance Busan education and complete a great transformation toward future education.”
Candidate Kim emphasized, “There is neither progressivism nor conservatism in education. Only vision, policies, and dedication for good education are required.”
He added, “I will create a ‘Busan where education becomes hope’ and a ‘Busan where parents have no worries,’ where every child can nurture their dreams according to their talents and aptitudes.”
The opening ceremony was attended by former Busan City Superintendent of Education Jeong Soon-taek, Byeon Seong-wan, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Busan mayor, Kang Jae-cheol, president of Busan Teachers’ Association, Ahn Jong-hoon, expert committee member of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Association, and Seong Hyang-sook, former director of Busan Women and Family Development Institute.
About 1,000 representatives and supporters from various sectors also attended, including Do Woo-kyung, president of Busan Parents of Disabled Children Association, Cheon Jeong-guk, former director of the Education Bureau at Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Jo Gap-ryong, former director of Busan Gifted Education Promotion Institute, Lee Myeong-gon, co-representative of the Busan Regional Committee of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, Lee Young-ae, president of Busan Kindergarten Association, and Yoon Je-deok, president of Busan Academy Federation.
The opening ceremony was hosted by former Busan MBC announcer Son Ji-hyun and proceeded in the order of congratulatory speeches, cheering messages, candidate remarks, picture book recitation by writer Gong Gyeong-ja, screening of the candidate introduction video “Dreaming,” and cutting of sirutteok (steamed rice cake).
Candidate Kim Seok-jun graduated from Donghang Elementary School, Donga Middle School, Busan High School, and earned a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate in sociology from Seoul National University. He served as a professor at the College of Education at Pusan National University for 31 years starting in 1983. He also served as the 3rd and 4th elected Busan City Superintendent of Education.
During his tenure, Candidate Kim achieved space innovation by changing school buildings and classrooms, innovation in teaching and evaluation methods, completion of free meals for kindergartens and elementary, middle, and high schools, realization of free education for elementary, middle, and high schools, achieving first place in nationwide education office integrity evaluations, and receiving the highest and excellent ratings for four consecutive years in nationwide city and provincial education office evaluations.
