Yongsan-gu to Host 6th Senior Citizens' Day Event on 7th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Yongsan Family Park 2nd Plaza with 3,500 Attendees... Pre-Performance, Ceremony, Celebration Performances, and 9 Experience & Event Booths
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) will hold a filial piety festival on the 7th at the 2nd Square of Yongsan Family Park (137 Seobinggo-ro), gathering 3,500 seniors and volunteers.
This is Yongsan-gu's first large-scale event cautiously preparing for the post-COVID-19 era after the social distancing measures were lifted.
In 2014, the district was the first autonomous district in Seoul to enact and promulgate the "Ordinance on Encouragement and Support for Filial Piety in Yongsan-gu, Seoul." The event is held in May, known as the queen of seasons, with the intention of giving seniors the "spring of life."
The event opens at 9:30 a.m. with a pre-performance by the SA Cheerleader Team and continues for three hours with a commemorative ceremony, congratulatory performances, and a closing ceremony.
At the commemorative ceremony, Yongsan-gu Mayor Seongjanghyun will take the stage to present certificates of commendation to 18 local filial piety awardees, exemplary seniors, and contributors to senior welfare, including Jeon Yongbeom (male), and letters of appreciation to nine companies sponsoring the event, including Shinhan Bank Yongsan-gu Branch.
The highlight congratulatory performances will feature famous singers such as Taejinah with "Okyeongi," Kim Yongim with "Rope of Love," and Jinseong with "At Andong Station," delivering dazzling performances. The event will be hosted by professional MC Taeklim Lee.
During the closing ceremony, a raffle will be held. Prizes include a large LED TV, an oven microwave, and a massage mat.
At one corner of the venue, nine event booths will operate to bring more joy to the seniors, including ▲Balloon Art & Nail Art (Yongsan-gu Volunteer Center) ▲OX Quiz for Dementia Prevention (Yongsan-gu Dementia Relief Center) ▲Craft Making Experience (Yongsan Craft Center) ▲Shall We Play Smartly with Cheongpa Blue? (Cheongpa Senior Welfare Center).
To ensure the successful promotion of the 6th Senior Citizens' Day event held for the first time in three years, the district has prepared high-quality cultural performances and thoroughly prepared quarantine measures and safety management plans, considering that COVID-19 has not been completely eradicated.
The event operation time has been reduced by one hour compared to previous years, and instead of serving lunch during the performances, retort food packages will be provided.
Considering that the target audience is aged 65 and older, strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention guidelines will be enforced, including temperature checks, health status list completion, and continuous mask-wearing instructions for attendees.
The day before the event, a joint safety inspection of the venue will be conducted with related organizations such as Yongsan Police Station, Yongsan Fire Station, and Korea Electrical Safety Corporation. During the event, over 200 staff members will continue safety and order maintenance activities.
To prepare for heat and rain, a large shade tent will be installed above the seating area, and an ambulance and paramedics will be stationed inside the venue to respond to emergencies.
Mayor Seongjanghyun of Yongsan-gu said, "Many seniors were disappointed because the Senior Citizens' Day event could not be held for two years due to COVID-19. I am glad that we can hold it this year." He added, "I am excited to see the childlike smiles of the seniors we met at pre-COVID events again. I hope everyone enjoys it to the fullest and makes happy memories."
