‘Yesan School’ Opens... Residents Directly Participate in Budget Planning and Execution in Geochang-gun

Resident Participation Budget Project Contest Announcement

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, held a Resident Budget School to promote the Resident Participatory Budget System.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam held a Resident Budget School on the 3rd to expand awareness of the Resident Participatory Budget System.

On that day, the county conducted education for 30 residents of Mari, Wicheon, and Buksang at the Wicheon-myeon Comprehensive Welfare Center, covering understanding of the Resident Participatory Budget System, discovering and selecting local agendas, and jointly creating proposed projects.

Among the fields considered important for regional development, concrete projects were immediately submitted as proposed projects.

The Resident Participatory Budget System allows residents to participate in budget formulation and execution, plan projects necessary for regional development and change, decide agendas through public discussion, and implement them.

Geochang-gun plans to hold budget schools by six regions: Namsang, Namha, and Sinwon on May 3; Jusang, Ungyang, and Goje on May 6; Gajo and Gabuk on May 11; Geochang-eup on May 13; and youth zones in June.

They also announced that they will conduct a Resident Participatory Budget Project Contest to reflect residents' opinions in the 2023 budget formulation.

Kim Tae-hee, Acting Governor of Geochang-gun, said, “Resident participation is the first step toward local decentralization, and local decentralization is the driving force of national competitiveness. We expect that interest in resident participation will increase through the Budget School, bringing change to Geochang and better opportunities.”
