[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Sonide announced on the 4th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hurim Robot for the purpose of diversifying advanced businesses such as inspection robots and smart logistics.
Starting with this MOU, Sonide and Hurim Robot plan to jointly pursue various projects including ▲development of three-dimensional inspection robots equipped with vision inspection systems ▲development of smart logistics systems based on autonomous driving robots ▲business expansion through sharing networks of key customers in China and other major markets.
Sonide aims to further advance its smart logistics business by integrating Internet of Things (IoT) total solutions with autonomous driving robot systems, and to realize future growth businesses by strengthening existing business competitiveness, such as developing 3D vision solutions through its subsidiary F Display.
Sonide will combine its manufacturing technology competitiveness, including global logistics networks, IoT, and vision inspection system technologies, with Hurim Robot’s industrial robot technology know-how and system solutions. This is expected to enhance their competitiveness.
Choi Simyeong, CEO of Sonide, explained, "Sonide possesses RFID production technology, a core capability of IoT systems, and has secured display material supply and inspection equipment production capacity through its subsidiary F Display."
He added, "Various business expansions based on robot convergence technology will be possible. Through joint business promotion by integrating Hurim Robot’s robotics technology, we plan to explore new advanced business market opportunities such as three-dimensional inspection robots."
Regarding joint projects such as smart logistics and three-dimensional inspection robot system development, Sonide’s existing network, which forms a core customer network centered on major domestic and international large corporations including those in China, is expected to serve as a strength in pioneering new business markets.
Sonide is the only company in Korea that has established an integrated production system from tag antenna design to final labeling work, centered on IoT technologies such as RFID and NFC. Hurim Robot, which is collaborating with Sonide on joint projects, focuses on producing Cartesian coordinate robots, SCARA robots, and transfer robots for wafer or panel handling in display and semiconductor processes as its main business.
