Democratic Party to Decide This Through 2-3 Day Primary Using Polling Method... Incumbent District Heads Show Advantage in Primary
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seoul Metropolitan Party of the Democratic Party of Korea confirmed Lee Seung-ro, the current mayor of Seongbuk-gu, as the candidate for Seongbuk District Mayor, and Yoo Dong-gyun, the current mayor of Mapo-gu, as the candidate for Mapo District Mayor on the afternoon of the 3rd.
They also decided on Park Dong-woong, chairman of the Guro District Council, as the candidate for Guro District Mayor, and Oh Young-soo, former deputy mayor of Dongjak-gu, as the candidate for Dongjak District Mayor.
The Democratic Party made these decisions through a primary election using public opinion polls held on the 2nd and 3rd.
Lee Seung-ro, candidate for Seongbuk District Mayor, secured 56.52%, defeating former deputy mayor Kim Byung-hwan, who received 43%. With this, Lee will face former National Assembly member Jeong Tae-geun of the People Power Party in the June 1 local election finals.
Candidate Yoo Dong-gyun obtained 55.47%, surpassing former Seoul City Council member Han Ki-young, who received 44%. Yoo will compete against People Power Party candidate Kim Jin-cheon.
In this way, incumbent district mayors gained an advantageous position even in the primaries.
Park Dong-woong, chairman of the Guro District Council, received 55%, defeating Jang In-hong, a two-term Seoul City Council member who obtained 45%.
Oh Young-soo, former deputy mayor of Dongjak-gu, won with 56%, beating Park Ki-yeol, vice chairman of the Seoul City Council, who received 43%, and will compete against former head of the Wonju Regional Land Management Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Park Il-ha of the People Power Party, in the finals.
Meanwhile, Yoo Seong-hoon, the current mayor, was selected as the candidate for Geumcheon District Mayor, and Kim Seung-hyun (35), former aide to National Assembly member Jin Seong-jun, was chosen as the candidate for Gangseo District Mayor.
Thus, except for a few autonomous districts, the Democratic Party and People Power Party candidates for Seoul district mayors have been almost finalized, and the candidates will begin preparations for the finals.
