Daejeon City Detects Restaurants Violating the Food Sanitation Act in Gyejoksan and Sutonggol Areas

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Daejeon Special Judicial Police announced on the 3rd that they conducted a planned investigation targeting restaurants in recreational areas from March to April and identified six locations violating the Food Sanitation Act, Food Labeling and Advertising Act, and Origin Labeling Act.

According to the special judicial police, the crackdown was carried out to check compliance with the Food Sanitation Act at restaurants in popular summer recreational spots such as Daecheongho, Gyejoksan, and Sutonggol, where outdoor activities increase.

The violations detected during the crackdown included ▲ three cases of storing or using expired products ▲ one case of using unlabeled products in food preparation ▲ one case of expanding business without reporting changes in business area ▲ one case of false origin labeling.

The special judicial police will request administrative action from the relevant district offices for the businesses caught in the crackdown and plan to send the cases to the prosecution after the investigation is completed.

Meanwhile, according to the Food Sanitation Act and the Act on Labeling and Advertising of Foods, business owners who store or use expired products, use unlabeled products, or operate expanded businesses without notification may face up to three years of imprisonment or fines up to 30 million KRW, as well as administrative sanctions such as a one-month business suspension.

Additionally, false origin labeling under the Act on the Labeling of Origin of Agricultural and Fishery Products is punishable by up to seven years of imprisonment or fines up to 100 million KRW, along with mandatory public disclosure of the sanctions and completion of educational programs.
