Busan Bukhang Returns to Citizens After 146 Years! ... Busan City Fully Opens Phase 1 Public Facilities of Bukhang Major Open Areas Map of Busan Port.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The North Port, which has been closed until now, is returning to the arms of Busan citizens after 146 years.

On the 4th, the public facilities of Phase 1 of Busan Port North Port will be fully opened.

The Phase 1 redevelopment of North Port began in 2008 to provide the idle North Port, which became underutilized after the opening of Busan New Port in 2006, as a waterfront space for citizens.

It is Korea's first large-scale port redevelopment project, with a total area of 1.53 million square meters and an investment of about 2.4 trillion won.

Busan Port Authority (BPA), which is promoting the Phase 1 redevelopment of North Port, opened a 26,000 square meter cultural park site in December last year. From the 4th, the remaining public facilities such as neighborhood parks, scenic waterways, and pedestrian decks will also be fully opened.

Major representative facilities include a 60-meter-wide pedestrian deck linked with the integrated development of the old downtown, a neighborhood park about 17 times the size of a soccer field, and a scenic waterway about 1.3 km long connected to the sea, offering a panoramic view of Busan Port.

The landmark site will be developed into the largest urban wildflower garden in Korea, covering 89,000 square meters, until the land is used by the project operator. It is expected to provide various attractions and sights to Busan citizens tired from prolonged social distancing.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “We will complete the preliminary feasibility study before the BIE (International Bureau of Expositions) on-site inspection for the Phase 2 redevelopment of North Port, the planned site for the 2030 Busan World Expo, and make every effort to attract the expo.” He added, “Busan City and the government will unite and sprint forward to successfully promote the North Port redevelopment project.”
