[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Netmarble announced on the 3rd that it has made an equity investment of approximately 9.4 billion KRW in the animation studio ‘Millionvolt’.
With this investment, Netmarble has acquired the rights to develop and service games based on the intellectual property (IP) of the new animation ‘Hero Books’ currently being prepared by Millionvolt, as well as the priority review rights for gamification of all future projects produced by Millionvolt.
Millionvolt is an animation studio established in December 2018 by director Maeng Ju-gong and his production team, who created the globally popular non-verbal comedy animation series ‘Larva’. Based on their production capabilities that created global hits, they are preparing multiple animation works including ‘Hero Books’.
‘Hero Books’ is an action hero comedy animation with the concept that calling the name of a comic book’s main character makes them appear in reality, and it is being produced with the goal of a global release within this year.
Netmarble stated, “As we expressed our determination to become a strong IP holding company at the NTP in January, this investment aims to further strengthen our global competitiveness by securing excellent IP from Millionvolt,” adding, “We will showcase games with differentiated fun based on Netmarble’s unique development capabilities.”
