[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol stated on the 2nd that the issue of relocating Suwon Military Airport should be addressed in a way that balances national security and the quality of life of the citizens.

On the same day, Yoon attended a meeting with residents affected by noise from Suwon Military Airport held at Suwon Urban Corporation in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. The meeting was also attended by Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate for Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Yong-nam, the People Power Party candidate for Mayor of Suwon, and Oh Byung-kwon, Acting Governor of Gyeonggi Province.

Yoon said, "The noise problem from the military airport is not a recent issue, and I understand that the quality of life of residents has declined and that students in the area face difficulties studying," but he emphasized the need to find common ground, saying, "Military matters are essential for national security."

He also promised support at the central government level. Yoon stated, "As the person who will lead the new government, the key is to find a mutually agreeable relocation site among the military, local governments, and residents, and for the central government to provide substantial support for the relocation site so that it can be accepted."
