[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Huawei has introduced the '1+1+N' 5.5G network, a physical foundation for 5.5G mobile communications aimed at digital and intelligent innovation.
Huawei announced on the 2nd that Gan Bin, Vice President of the Wireless Network Product Division (pictured), delivered a keynote speech titled "Endless Exploration to Start a New Journey with 5G" at the 'Global Analyst Summit 2022 (HAS 2022)' on the 27th of last month.
While 5G has paved the way for digitalization and intelligence, 5.5G is expected to further enhance these capabilities. Vice President Gan Bin stated, "5.5G enables profound digital and intelligent innovation through a ubiquitous 10Gbps experience and connectivity for 100 billion devices."
He added, "Together with industry partners, we are researching ultra-high bandwidth, uplink frequency reconstruction, extremely large antenna array-massive multiple input multiple output (ELAA-Massive MIMO), eco-friendly air interfaces, and native intelligence to support telecom operators in building and enhancing the 1+1+N 5.5G network."
To realize the 1+1+N network, each operator requires at least 1GHz of frequency to guarantee a ubiquitous 10Gbps experience. Continuous upgrades to uplink capabilities are also necessary.
Measures have also been prepared to address the challenges of expanding 5.5G coverage. Huawei proposed ELAA-Massive MIMO (extremely large antenna array-Massive MIMO) based on extremely large antenna arrays to secure joint coverage between the C-band and higher bands. The ultra-high bandwidth and ELAA-MM technologies are explained to increase network capacity and frequency efficiency, thereby improving energy efficiency.
Huawei expects 5.5G to provide native intelligence that enables real-time sensing, analysis, prediction, and intelligent decision-making. It is also anticipated to be applied across various industries using purpose-specific solutions.
