[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju, has embarked on the construction of the Nam-gu National Sports Center in Jinwol-dong to promote residents' health and activate community sports.
On the 2nd, Nam-gu announced, "We are currently promoting a public design competition using a general design method to build a National Sports Center with a site area of 3,000㎡ within the Jinwol Complex Sports Ground site next to the Jinwol-dong Multipurpose Gymnasium."
The Nam-gu National Sports Center is a result of being selected in the 2022 Living SOC Complex Project competition and has taken its first step with the goal of completion by the end of 2023.
Nam-gu plans to invest about 5.7 billion KRW to create a two-story above-ground building equipped with a gymnasium, convenience facilities, and residential parking lots. Recently, the first step of the project started with a general design competition open to architectural offices nationwide without regional restrictions.
The design cost for the construction of the Nam-gu National Sports Center is about 275 million KRW, and the competition process will continue until August.
First, on the 4th, applications for the design competition will be accepted, and on the 9th, an on-site briefing will be held at the Jinwol-dong project site.
Design works submitted by architectural offices will be accepted for one day on July 26, and the final design plan is expected to be confirmed after the design competition jury meeting scheduled for August 1.
After the design competition winner is confirmed, the design service process, which will form the framework of the Nam-gu National Sports Center, will take about six months, and full-scale construction is expected to begin early next year.
Once completed, the Nam-gu National Sports Center will offer various sports activities such as table tennis and badminton. Additionally, a residential parking lot will be created to facilitate parking for residents living near the facility and users, which is expected to reduce inconveniences caused by illegal parking.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will do our best to promote the project to expand complex community sports facilities linked with the Jinwol Complex Sports Ground to improve the quality of life for residents in the district."
