[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will conduct a soil contamination survey until October to protect citizens' health from soil pollution and preserve the soil ecosystem.
This year, the survey covers a total of 110 locations, 15 more than last year.
The survey targets 64 key pollution sources designated by the Ministry of Environment, including industrial complexes, factory areas, and traffic-related facility areas, as well as 31 areas where factory wastewater inflows occur. In addition, soil contamination surveys will be conducted at children's playgrounds and groundwater contamination areas.
Through sample collection services by soil contamination survey agencies, GPS positioning surveys will be conducted, along with buried object detection and collection of surface and deep soil samples (up to 0?5 meters).
The City Health and Environment Research Institute will test 23 soil contaminants, including hazardous heavy metals and volatile organic compounds, in surface and deep soil according to the survey points and contamination types.
Based on this, compliance with the "Soil Contamination Concern Standards" under the Soil Environment Conservation Act will be determined, and each district will take administrative actions such as detailed soil surveys, purification, and restoration for areas exceeding these standards.
An Incheon City official stated, "Last year, we established a soil conservation plan to expand the scope of the soil contamination survey and improve survey methods. We will conduct preliminary investigations of potential soil contamination facilities to prevent harm to citizens and strengthen the foundation for soil contamination management."
