[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu (affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea), held an opening ceremony on April 30 at 3 p.m. at the election office near Seoul National University Station, where supporters gathered, and declared a vigorous start toward winning re-election as Gwanak-gu Mayor in the June 1 local elections.
At the opening ceremony, many members of the Democratic Party of Korea, including Yoo Ki-hong and Jeong Tae-ho, members of the National Assembly representing Gwanak-gap and Gwanak-eul, Seoul city councilors, district councilors, and numerous candidates for the June 1 local elections attended to pledge their determination for victory. Representatives from various sectors of Gwanak-gu, including youth, women, people with disabilities, the elderly, and small business owners, formed a large gathering, demonstrating the high popularity of the incumbent Mayor Park Jun-hee.
Song Young-gil, former party leader and officially confirmed Democratic Party candidate for Seoul Mayor, praised Mayor Park Jun-hee’s achievements such as the establishment of Gwanak S-Valley in his congratulatory speech, stating, “I am confident in Mayor Park Jun-hee’s re-election victory,” and added, “Let us unite as one team and all win.”
Mayor Park Jun-hee defined the 7th term of Gwanak-gu’s autonomous government, which achieved significant milestones such as the opening of the 1 trillion won budget era for Gwanak-gu, the foundation of Gwanak S-Valley, a Korean-style Silicon Valley, and designation as a venture business promotion district, as a great success story. He pledged, “Only a proven incumbent mayor continuing the district administration can ensure Gwanak’s steady and sustainable development,” and vowed, “I will definitely win on June 1, carrying the hopes of 500,000 Gwanak residents and the mission of the times.”
Mayor Park set the vision for Gwanak’s development in the 8th term as ‘Together, the Best Gwanak-gu’ and presented six major strategies to realize this: ▲Together Economy ▲Together Welfare ▲Youth Special City ▲Top Education and Culture ▲Clean and Safe Living Environment ▲Innovative Gwanak Office. His campaign slogan was “Grow Gwanak’s Economy Bigger, Accelerate Regional Development Faster, Raise Residents’ Happiness Higher.”
Key pledges included ▲Promotion of Gwanak S-Valley 2.0, establishment of the Small and Medium Venture Promotion Agency, operation of the Harmony Knowledge Economy Center ▲Happy single-person households, improved mobility rights for the disabled, fostering a multicultural city, coexistence with animals ▲Establishment of the nation’s first Youth Culture Bureau, expansion of youth cultural spaces, increased youth job opportunities ▲Expansion of cooperation projects with Seoul National University, expanded operation of the Gwanak Cultural Foundation, creation of a youth cultural city ▲Implementation of the Gwanaksan Park 24 Project, expansion of parking lots, special district for women’s safety and security ▲Smart City Gwanak, operation of the Innovation Policy Research Group, strengthening grassroots resident autonomy.
