"Moon, So Detached from Public Sentiment That Criticism Calls Him an Alien President"
Criticism of Moon's Move to Cheong Wa Dae Called "Absurd Disconnection from Reality"
Urges Democratic Party Lawmakers to "Cast Opposing Votes with Conviction"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 30th, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, repeatedly urged President Moon Jae-in to exercise his veto power over the 'Complete Removal of Prosecutorial Investigation Rights (Geomsu Wanbak)' bill and requested a meeting.
At the People Power Party members' meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Kwon continued his sharp criticism toward President Moon. He said, "There are criticisms calling him the Truman Show president or an alien president, indicating that (President Moon) is out of touch with public sentiment," adding, "I feel devastated wondering who is blocking the president's eyes and ears, and whether he has spent five years in the Blue House's secluded palace only hearing pleasing words."
He continued, "I requested a meeting to directly meet President Moon and convey the true public sentiment and voices," urging, "Do not hide behind the curtain of benevolence and respond to the meeting request." He also emphasized, "President Moon should be the veto holder, not the beneficiary, of Geomsu Wanbak."
Regarding President Moon's negative remarks about relocating the Blue House, he said, "It is truly absurd body dissociation and double standards," adding, "Even if President Moon's remarks are considered criticism of Geomsu Wanbak, there is no discrepancy." He pointed out that criticizing the Blue House relocation while the Democratic Party is forcibly passing the Geomsu Wanbak bill is a double standard.
Addressing Democratic Party lawmakers, he said, "You must not exchange responsibility and integrity toward the nation and the people for text message attacks," and earnestly appealed, "Do not become accomplices or neglecters of an evil law against the will of the sovereign people; please cast your dissenting votes with conviction."
On the same day, the Democratic Party passed the amendment to the Prosecutors' Office Act, one of the Geomsu Wanbak bills, by vote at the plenary session of the National Assembly.
