[AKyung Poll] Kim Eun-hye 43.9% vs Kim Dong-yeon 43.3% Neck-and-Neck... Kim Eun-hye Performs Well in 'Mini Presidential Election'

Gyeonggi Province Governor Race Tight with 0.6% Point Gap
Kim Eun-hye Rises After Confirmed as Candidate

[AKyung Poll] Kim Eun-hye 43.9% vs Kim Dong-yeon 43.3% Neck-and-Neck... Kim Eun-hye Performs Well in 'Mini Presidential Election'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] In the upcoming June local elections, the Gyeonggi Province governor race, emerging as the most fiercely contested battleground, shows Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party and Kim Dong-yeon of the Democratic Party of Korea locked in an ultra-close race within the margin of error. Since the candidates from both parties were finalized, the generational battle between the two sides has been evenly matched. However, considering that Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate in the last presidential election, received more votes in this region, Kim Eun-hye’s strong performance stands out more prominently. It is analyzed that issues such as the launch of the next government and ‘Geomsu Wanbak’ (complete removal of prosecutorial investigation rights) have influenced this outcome.

Asia Economy commissioned Realmeter to conduct a public opinion poll from the 27th to 28th among 1,010 men and women aged 18 and older residing in Gyeonggi Province (automated response telephone survey method; 90% wireless, 10% wired). In the candidate suitability survey, Kim Eun-hye received 43.9% support, narrowly leading Kim Dong-yeon’s 43.3% by 0.6 percentage points. Other candidates accounted for 7.6%, and undecided voters were 5.2% (3% none + 2.2% don’t know).

In a previous poll conducted from the 1st to 2nd among 1,009 men and women aged 18 and older in Gyeonggi Province (Asia Economy-Realmeter), in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup, Kim Eun-hye trailed significantly with 28.6% compared to Kim Dong-yeon’s 41.8%. However, her approval rating appears to be rising after the candidate confirmation.

Regarding the reasons for choosing Kim Eun-hye, 27.9% of respondents cited her ‘excellent ability to implement pledges,’ while 36.9% chose Kim Dong-yeon because he is a ‘former economic bureaucrat.’

When asked about party support, 48.2% of respondents chose the People Power Party, and 40.8% chose the Democratic Party of Korea. Notably, 57.8% opposed Lee Jae-myung’s candidacy for the Gyeonggi region parliamentary by-election following his defeat in the presidential election.

The margin of error for this poll is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For detailed survey information, please refer to the Realmeter website or the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
