[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] It has been surveyed that 8 out of 10 voters in Gyeonggi-do have decided on the candidate for the governor of Gyeonggi-do.
On the 29th, Asia Economy commissioned Realmeter to conduct a public opinion poll (90% wireless, 10% wired, automated response) targeting 1,010 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi-do from the 27th to 28th. The result showed that 77.4% of respondents said they would continue to support the current candidate for governor of Gyeonggi-do they support. Those who said they could change their choice accounted for 17.9%, and 4.7% had no opinion or did not know.
In particular, the support retention rate was high among the two leading candidates: Kim Dong-yeon of the Democratic Party of Korea and Kim Eun-hye of the People Power Party. Among Kim Dong-yeon's supporters, 82.2% expressed their intention to continue supporting him, while 81.0% of Kim Eun-hye's supporters said the same.
Considering that the party primaries have just concluded and the official election campaign has not yet started, it can be seen that voters decided on their preferred candidate early before the election campaign fully began.
However, respondents who said they might change their preferred candidate are expected to be the decisive factor in this local election. The suitability ratings for the Gyeonggi-do governor candidates show Kim Dong-yeon at 43.3% and Kim Eun-hye at 43.9%, a narrow margin of 0.6 percentage points within the margin of error, indicating a tight race.
▶ How was the survey conducted? = This survey was commissioned by Asia Economy and conducted by Realmeter over two days, the 27th and 28th, attempting to contact 57,108 voters aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi-do. A total of 1,010 respondents completed the survey, with a response rate of 1.8%. The survey used an automated response method with 90% wireless and 10% wired calls, employing a random digit dialing sampling frame. Statistical adjustments were made using rim weighting based on gender, age group, and region according to the March 2022 resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
