[AKYUNG Poll] Gyeonggi-do Shows More Support for People Power Party than Democratic Party... PPP 48.2%, DP 40.8%

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Ahead of the Gyeonggi Province governor election in June, residents of Gyeonggi Province were found to support the People Power Party more than the Democratic Party of Korea.

On the 29th, Asia Economy commissioned Realmeter to conduct a public opinion poll from the 27th to 28th targeting 1,010 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi Province (90% mobile, 10% landline, automated response). When asked "Which party do you support or have more favorable feelings toward?" 48.2% of respondents supported the People Power Party.

The Democratic Party's support rate was 40.8%, with the People Power Party leading beyond the margin of error. The gap between the two parties was 7.4 percentage points.

This result is analyzed to have been influenced by issues such as the upcoming new government launch and 'Geomsu Wanbak' (complete removal of prosecutorial investigation rights).

The Justice Party was at 2.6%, and other parties at 2.4%. The non-affiliated group accounted for 5.9% (none 4.9% + don't know 1.0%).

By region, the People Power Party had higher support in all regions, with the largest gap in the eastern region (People Power Party 51.4%, Democratic Party 36.3%).

By age group, the People Power Party was more dominant among those in their 30s (45.8%) and those aged 60 and above (69.2%), while the Democratic Party had higher support among those in their 20s (43.7%), 40s (50.6%), and 50s (50.1%).

Candidate consolidation was slightly higher for the People Power Party. Among respondents supporting Gyeonggi Province governor candidates, 85.3% of those supporting Democratic Party candidate Kim Dong-yeon also supported the Democratic Party, and 90.2% of those supporting People Power Party candidate Kim Eun-hye supported the People Power Party.

Among those in favor of former Gyeonggi Province governor Lee Jae-myung running in the by-election, 78.6% supported the Democratic Party, while 71.6% of those opposed supported the People Power Party.

This survey was conducted by Realmeter on behalf of Asia Economy over two days, the 27th and 28th, attempting to contact 57,108 eligible voters aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi Province, with a final 1,010 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a response rate of 1.8%. The survey used an automated response method with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, employing random digit dialing through a randomly generated sampling frame. Statistical adjustments were made using rim weighting by gender, age group, and region based on the March 2022 resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For detailed survey information, refer to the Realmeter website or the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
