"‘Wife in Emergency’ 119 Call... Turns Out to Be Stalking Perpetrator
Committed Crime Again During Provisional Measures Period"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 40s who falsely reported to 119 that "his wife was in an emergency" to open the door of a woman he was stalking has been arrested by the police.
The Anyang Dongan Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 28th that they have arrested Mr. A on the spot and are investigating him on charges including violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
Mr. A is accused of making a false report to 119 around 9:50 p.m. on the 27th, saying "My wife is about to take an extreme measure, so please open the door," in order to open the door of a villa in Dongan-gu, Anyang-si, where the victim Ms. B resides.
According to the investigation, Mr. A had been stalking Ms. B for some time and had received the strongest provisional measure, the Type 4 disposition, which can be requested by the police, and had been detained in a detention center.
Even after being released recently when his detention period ended, Mr. A was prohibited from approaching or contacting the victim but was found to have repeatedly stalked her.
A police official said, "It was confirmed that Mr. A's provisional measure period lasts until June," and added, "Mr. A violated the provisional measure and committed the crime, so he was arrested on the spot."
The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant after completing the investigation of Mr. A.
