Comprehensive Mobilization Plan of All Civil, Public, and Military Resources from April to June
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province is launching a 'Province-wide Volunteer Labor Assistance Campaign' to address the shortage of agricultural labor caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
On the 28th, the province announced plans to designate the peak farming season from April to June as the 'Intensive Period for Agricultural Labor Assistance' and mobilize all resources from the public, private, and military sectors.
Applications for volunteer support will be accepted from various sectors including local institutions and organizations, public officials, military personnel, and university students, who will then assist in groups of about 10 people by region.
A 'Labor Assistance Relay' led by provincial government officials will also be promoted.
Since last month, the province has been operating an 'Agricultural Workforce Support Situation Room' and has mobilized a total of 12,138 volunteers to fully address the labor shortage during the peak farming season.
However, due to COVID-19, large-scale agricultural labor assistance from military units, companies, and organizations has decreased, and the upcoming June 1 local elections have compounded the shortage of volunteer labor.
Kim Bok-jin, Director of the Agricultural Policy Bureau, stated, "During the peak farming season, we plan to mobilize all resources from the public, private, and military sectors to provide proactive workforce support to areas expected to face labor shortages and focus on regional labor assistance." He added, "We ask for active participation in the province-wide volunteer labor assistance campaign."
