[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is providing jobs to homeless people around Suwon Station.
On the 27th, Suwon City announced that it signed a 'Homeless Job Cooperation Project Implementation Agreement' with Korea Railroad Corporation and Suwon Restart Homeless Comprehensive Support Center at 'Jeong Nanumteo,' a free meal service center at Suwon Station Plaza.
The core of this project is to hire homeless people around Suwon Station who have the willingness to work and assign them to environmental cleaning duties around Suwon Station Plaza and Suwon Station Transfer Center. They work 3 hours a day, 60 hours a month, and the monthly salary is about 890,000 KRW.
According to the agreement, Korea Railroad Corporation will support jobs and salaries, the Homeless Comprehensive Support Center will select participants, and Suwon City will provide administrative support such as adjusting the scope of work.
Park Mi-sook, Director of the Welfare and Women’s Bureau of Suwon City, expressed expectations, saying, "Through the homeless job cooperation project, we will encourage the work motivation of the homeless and support their independence by linking them to employment," adding, "It will also help improve the environment around Suwon Station."
