Establishment of Cultural Heritage Repair Materials Center in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk
Management and Supply of Extra-large Pine Timber, Natural Stone, and Rice Straw
On the 27th, the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Cultural Heritage Repair Materials Center in the area of 245 Pungjeong-ri, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk. This specialized institution is being established to systematically manage traditional materials used in cultural heritage repairs. It aims to stably supply materials that are difficult to produce in the private sector, such as extra-large pine timber, natural stone, and rice straw. The center is scheduled to open in 2024.
The building will consist of four structures: a repair materials storage building, an office and research building, a welfare building, and a residence. The repair materials storage building is designed considering the unloading, preprocessing, and storage of materials. The office and research building will be equipped with quality control, certification, and testing analysis equipment for traditional materials. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "We plan to run educational programs alongside by providing classrooms and video rooms." Regarding the outdoor space, they said, "It will be used as a test cultivation site for herbaceous plants." Herbaceous plants refer to plants that do not form wood in their stems.
