[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] On the 26th, the office of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol responded to former President Moon Jae-in's mention of the "politicization of the prosecution" during a special interview with JTBC the previous day, stating, "(The Moon) administration has privatized power, which is why the public is paying attention to and finding the current debate problematic."
Baek Hyun-jin, spokesperson for the President-elect, said at the regular briefing of the transition committee in Tongui-dong, Seoul, that morning, "In the past, not only the prosecution but also the police, the National Tax Service, and all government power agencies pressured the opposing camp and privatized that power, causing considerable fatigue among the public," adding, "Isn't that exactly why President-elect Yoon was born?"
He continued, "For that reason, although President Moon himself said it was quite ironic, we believe that without us having to explain, no one knows better than President Moon and the Democratic Party."
In the JTBC special interview aired the previous day, President Moon expressed his thoughts on prosecutorial reform. He said, "'Politicization of the prosecution' is fundamentally the problem," adding, "If the prosecution covers up and does not indict, there is no way to punish."
Regarding the prosecution's investigation behavior during the 'Cho Kuk incident,' he said, "I cannot make a definitive judgment," but also noted, "Since the flow at the time was led by (Yoon Seok-yeol), it is difficult to make a hasty judgment," and further explained, "While the prosecution may investigate if there are clues, looking at the investigation methods, there are many coincidences that could be seen as having a purpose or intention."
