[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] A man in his 30s who habitually assaulted his elementary school-aged siblings was arrested by the police.

The Women and Youth Investigation Unit of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 25th that they have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on charges of habitual child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.

Mr. A is suspected of habitually assaulting his elementary school-aged son and daughter at their home in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, from last year until recently.

It has been confirmed that Mr. A used his body without any tools to assault the siblings. Bruises and contusions were found on the children’s bodies.

The police, judging that Mr. A might flee as he continuously refused to cooperate with the investigation, obtained an arrest warrant and apprehended him.

During the police investigation, Mr. A claimed that the assaults were intended as discipline for the children and denied any intent to harm. Mr. A’s wife was also questioned as a witness but was not charged due to lack of evidence of abuse.

The police have separated the siblings from Mr. A and are conducting a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances of the case.
