[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, recently announced on the 24th that it held a 'Resident Participation Budget School.'
This year's Resident Participation Budget School was held with about 80 participants, including members of the Resident Participation Budget Committee, members of the Resident Participation Budget Regional Council, and residents. Hyun-Joo Lee, a research fellow at the Participation Budget Center of the Regional Future Research Institute, was invited to give a special lecture on the topic of 'Understanding the Resident Participation Budget System and Cases.'
Starting with this budget school, Dong-gu will hold a public contest for the '2023 Resident Participation Budget Project' with a total scale of 1 billion KRW from May 1 to June 10. Any resident of Dong-gu can apply and propose projects aimed at improving resident convenience, such as addressing inconveniences.
Proposals that pass the review of the Resident Participation Budget Committee will be reflected in next year's budget, and the projects will be actively promoted.
A Dong-gu official said, "Resident participation budgeting is the starting point of fiscal democracy where residents directly propose, organize, and execute projects essential to the region," adding, "We hope residents show great interest and actively participate in the resident participation budget projects, where residents become the main agents of administration."
