[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, is conducting intensive pest control disinfection to prevent infectious diseases caused by mosquitoes and other pests and to minimize inconvenience to residents.
Gwangsan-gu operates a mobile pest control team at the public health center on a regular basis, and since March, it has selected a professional private pest control company to implement customized disinfection by dividing the 21 neighborhoods in the district into 12 zones.
The disinfection uses eco-friendly insecticides that are harmless to humans and livestock for environmental protection, and mainly conducts spray disinfection to minimize environmental pollution.
On the 21st, in cooperation with the private pest control company, 20kg of mud loaches, natural predators of mosquito larvae, were released at Imgokgyo Bridge.
One mud loach is known to eat more than 1,000 mosquito larvae per day. Reducing one mosquito larva results in reducing 500 to 1,000 adult mosquitoes.
Gwangsan-gu plans to release a total of 260kg of mud loaches at 57 locations, including Sinchang 1je, selected through a preliminary survey of appropriate areas by the end of this month.
Kim Ok-hyun, director of the public health center, stated, “We will thoroughly implement eco-friendly pest control to prevent pest outbreaks and various infectious diseases in advance and to create a pleasant living environment for residents.”
