[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) received commemorative donation items for Disabled Persons Day from the nonprofit organization Together with Love (Chairman Kim Byung-no) at the mayor’s office on the 20th.


The donated items, consisting of 820 bags of 10kg rice each, will be distributed to local facilities and organizations for the disabled during the commemorative week for Disabled Persons Day through the Gangseo-gu Federation of Disabled Persons Organizations (President Kim Yong-je).


Mayor Noh Hyun-song expressed his gratitude, saying, “We deeply appreciate the meaningful support for neighbors in need once again this year following last year,” and added, “The district will also do its best to promote the welfare and rights of disabled persons.”


Meanwhile, Together with Love, an official donation organization operating the Gangseo Food Bank Market, continues to carry out various social contribution activities for vulnerable neighbors including disabled persons, basic livelihood security recipients, and elderly living alone.

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) held a commendation ceremony on April 20th to honor 12 recipients of the Disabled Welfare Merit Award in celebration of the 42nd Disabled Persons Day.


Disabled Persons Day is a legal commemorative day established under Article 14 of the Disabled Welfare Act to promote public understanding of disabled persons and enhance their motivation for rehabilitation. The first Disabled Persons Day was held on April 20, 1981, marking the 42nd anniversary this year.


The event took place at 11 a.m. on the 20th in the Planning Situation Room on the 5th floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office with a minimal number of attendees including 12 disabled welfare merit awardees and representatives from recommending organizations. The ceremony was graced by merit awardees who have continuously worked to improve welfare for disabled persons and foster a society of coexistence, including welfare workers, volunteers, and sponsors.


Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon, who presented the awards, said, “The reason for designating and commemorating Disabled Persons Day on a pleasant spring day in April is to boost the rehabilitation will of disabled persons,” and added, “We support all those working to create a society where differences are not inconveniences and will do our best to improve awareness and rehabilitation for disabled persons.”


Since 2016, Dongdaemun-gu has operated the Dasarang Happiness Center, a complex facility equipped with convenience facilities for disabled persons (from basement level 4 to 10 floors above ground). The center houses the Dongdaemun-gu Disabled Welfare Center, Sign Language Interpretation Center, Integrated Office for Disabled Organizations, Informatization Education Center, Lifelong Education Center for Persons with Developmental Disabilities, and a Shelter for the Deaf, actively serving as a cultural space where disabled and non-disabled persons coexist.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, attended the ‘42nd Disabled Persons Day Commemoration Ceremony and Cultural Event’ held at The-K Star Wedding Banquet Hall on the 20th.


Organized by the Yangcheon-gu Federation of Disabled Persons Organizations (President Hong Yi-seok), the ceremony proceeded with an opening declaration, presentation of Disabled Person Awards and Disabled Welfare Merit Awards, followed by congratulatory performances.


Mayor Kim Soo-young said, “On the occasion of the 42nd Disabled Persons Day, I hope this will be a precious time to reflect on the human rights and dignity of disabled persons, and I will spare no effort to establish a foundation for communication and empathy beyond disability and non-disability.”

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, attended a flower pot making class held at the Yeongdeungpo Disabled Love Sharing House on the morning of the 20th in commemoration of the 42nd Disabled Persons Day.


This event was organized to deliver the fragrant energy of spring to disabled persons in the community and provide a venue for communication and empathy together in celebration of the 42nd Disabled Persons Day.


Mayor Chae participated in the flower pot making workshop and visited the family photo shoot event held as part of the program to check on the progress of the event.
