[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 20th, Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam held the 42nd Disability Day commemorative ceremony at the Disabled Complex Cultural Center, attended by about 100 disabled people, Kim Tae-hee, Acting Governor of Geochang-gun, provincial council members, and county council members, totaling about 120 people.
The event was organized by five disability organizations including those for physical disabilities, visual impairments, the deaf, spinal cord injuries, and the Disabled Parents Association. Under the slogan "Beyond Prejudice Against Disability, For a World Without Discrimination," the event began with a Nanta performance by users of the Geochang-gun Developmental Disability Daycare Center. Awards were presented to 12 individuals for their contributions to the promotion of disability welfare and exemplary disabled persons, followed by the main address and congratulatory speeches.
In his encouragement speech, Kim Tae-hee, Acting Governor of Geochang-gun, said, "I hope this becomes a place where everyone realizes the precious values of 'together' and 'with' beyond prejudice and discrimination," and promised, "We will do our best to make Geochang-gun a place that implements various policies reflecting the suggestions of disability organizations and persons with disabilities."
After the ceremony, various experiential events were held around the rotary in front of Geochang-gun Office, including a quiz to raise awareness about disabilities, exhibition of promotional materials, learning everyday sign language, wheelchair skill training, and an exhibition of Hanji crafts by the Spinal Cord Injury Association.
