2050 Yeosu City Carbon Neutrality, 'I am also a Carbon Hunter' Gains Citizen Support

Over 200 Businesses Pledge Ahead of the 15th Climate Protection Week Event

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do is receiving enthusiastic responses from citizens for the ‘I am also a Carbon Hunter’ campaign, launched to mark the 15th Climate Protection Week.

Since the 18th, Yeosu City, the Yeosu Sustainable Development Council, and the Yeosu Climate Environment Network have been visiting downtown shops to collect pledges for the ‘I am also a Carbon Hunter’ campaign, promising to practice carbon neutrality.

Citizens select one or two of the eight actions for carbon neutrality and fill out a pledge form with the store name, committing to practice them.

Yeosu City and others are attaching carbon neutrality practice store stickers to participating shops and donating trees to encourage store owners to grow them themselves.

The trees placed in front of stores in the city serve as a symbol of pride, contributing to carbon neutrality while absorbing fine dust.

Currently, the response from shops participating in ‘I am also a Carbon Hunter’ is reported to be very enthusiastic.

Within three days of accepting applications on the 18th, about 200 shops were recruited, and store owners who filled out the pledge forms are showing strong enthusiasm for practicing carbon neutrality, promising to responsibly care for the trees.

Green leaders from the Climate Environment Network, who are conducting recruitment activities on-site, aim to recruit 300 shops by Climate Protection Week and plan to further expand the campaign.

A city official stated, “For achieving carbon neutrality, it is important that every citizen practices at least one green lifestyle habit,” adding, “Fortunately, the response from store owners has been positive, so we are considering ways to further expand the ‘I am also a Carbon Hunter’ campaign.”
