Confirmed Student Cases Decrease by 76,000 Compared to Jeonju
Five Consecutive Weeks of Decline Since 3rd Week of March
95% of Students Attended In-Person Classes
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] In the past week, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among nationwide kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students has dropped below 100,000.
According to the Ministry of Education on the 20th, from the 12th to the 18th, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among nationwide kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students was 91,225, averaging 13,032 cases per day.
The weekly student cases decreased by nearly 76,000 compared to the previous week (166,823 cases), and the daily average cases also dropped by 10,000.
Student cases have been declining for five consecutive weeks. They peaked in the third week of March (407,159 cases), then were 370,527 in the fourth week of March, 259,940 in the fifth week of March, and 166,823 in the first week of April.
In the most recent week, the number of confirmed student cases by school level was highest among elementary students (46,853), followed by ▲middle school students 22,146 ▲high school students 16,524 ▲kindergarten 5,271. The cumulative number of confirmed student cases this semester is 1,972,905.
The number of confirmed cases among faculty and staff in the past week was 11,026, a decrease of more than 8,000 compared to the previous week. The cumulative number of confirmed faculty and staff cases this semester is 175,141.
The proportion of confirmed cases aged 18 and under among all confirmed cases was 20.8%, down from 22.5% the previous week. The proportion of student confirmed cases compiled by the Ministry of Education was 9.8%, also down from 12.2% the previous week.
As of the 18th, 99.1% of schools nationwide, or 20,156 out of 20,329 schools, conducted full in-person classes. Schools conducting partial in-person and partial remote classes numbered 100 (0.05%), and 6 schools conducted fully remote classes.
As of the 18th, 5,874,130 students were enrolled in in-person classes, accounting for 95.5% or 5,607,996 students.
The number of confirmed university student cases in the past week was 5,007, and faculty and staff cases were 979. Compared to the previous week, university student cases decreased by 6,405, and faculty and staff cases decreased by 852.
